Why bottom-up innovation isn't enough

In our well-meaning effort to support innovation and project teams, we often forget our leadership. Whilst we’re teaching teams how to do customer discovery and run honest experiments, our leaders are floundering, baffled by what the teams are doing and with no idea how to be supportive and hold them accountable in an appropriate way.  We can have a naïve and mistaken belief that leaders should instinctively know what questions to ask, listen to what the team is telling them and make evidence-based decisions.
